PRISON
FELLOWSHIP ANGEL TREE PROGRAM: This project delivers gifts of love and hope to
needy children of prisoners at Christmas time. Volunteers are needed to help
collect, organize, wrap and deliver gift items to the children on the wish

ARC DINNER DANCE: Wednesday, October 15th (6:00
p.m. - 9:00 p.m.)
GPHW
chapter is a national organization for people with developmental disabilities. They
work to enhance the quality of their lives by providing necessary
supports/services. Help is needed at 3 special dinner dances (March and April dates TBD) held for
these individuals. Mingle with children and adults with developmental and
cognitive impairments: simply dance, talk, play games, and have fun with
everyone present.

SUNRISE
ASSISTED LIVING CENTER: This neighborhood senior living center is looking
for volunteers
to visit residents; play cards or board games,
organize an activity or just enjoy conversation.

No
One Dies Alone (NODA): This St. John hospital project was created to
comfort patients with no visiting family members. Volunteers are needed to make
silver bread bracelets (materials provided)
that will be sold to benefit terminally ill
patients. All proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will be used to purchase
a variety of care and comfort items; music CDs, DVDs, lotion, books, and
activity items, etc.)

ST. JOHN PEDIATRIC ONCOLOGY
CARNIVAL: Wednesday, November 5th (3:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.)
This annual event is held in the Grosse Pointe War Memorial main
ballroom. This is a very special
evening for the children and their families. They get a fun-filled
evening away from the hospital
and cancer treatments. Assistance
is needed with set-up, helping children with games and clean-up.
Individuals or student groups may sign-up for a two hour time slot or
stay for the entire event.

MICHIGAN
MILITARY MOMS (MMM): This organization will collect items for our
military men and women stationed overseas. Volunteers are needed to collect,
purchase, and wrap care packages for the troops. Students may volunteer in a
variety of different ways, including making letters or cards.

SHOREPOINTE
VILLAGE: Volunteers are needed to visit and socialize with the elderly residents.
Activities may include an organized activity, playing cards; participate in
BINGO or making crafts. There is also a

WINDEMERE
PARK ASSISTED LIVING CENTER: This community would love to have students come
and
visit, play games or other activities with their clients. The facility is located in

JOSEPH NURSING HOME SPRING PLANTING DAY: This event is
annually held in May, 2009 (TBD.)

is located on Cadieux Road in Detroit. This always brightens their summer
days!

EARTH
WORKS GARDEN: This community
project was developed and
run by The Capuchin Soup Kitchen. This organization provides vegetables to the
poor throughout the Detroit area. It is located in Detroit at 1820 Mt. Elliot,
near the Meldrum Capuchin Soup Kitchen. Wear tennis shoes (no flip flops),
pants, and bring a long sleeve shirt to try your hand at organic gardening;
expect to get dirty! There will be discussions on your thoughts, ideas, and

ST. CHARLES CHURCH: Weekly ministry reaching out to persons living in
adult foster care and nursing homes. A variety of opportunities; preparing and
sending birthday cards, visiting nursing care centers, possibly arranging a
BINGO party for residents. A group is also needed to collect rosaries for

PREGNANCY AID, WALK FOR LIFE: This is a fun
day that begins at the Farms Pier Park (TBD)
This walk for life is a popular local fundraiser. Many posters are needed
to advertise this event – the
poster board will be provided!

CROSSROADS: An Ecumenical Social Service Ministry that
provides emergency food, clothing, and hygiene kits to those in need. Hygiene
items are needed and hands to package them together in kits. Help is needed on
most Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at their
location: Crossroads, 92 East Forest

OASIS DETROIT
Description: Oasis Detroit offers food, shelter, and
clothing to the homeless. It is dedicated especially to help the mentally ill,
the homeless find housing, employment, education, and self-esteem as they learn
to be self-sufficient under Oasis’ loving care, one person at a time. There are numerous ways you can help. Call James for more information
or to set up a day to serve 15-20 people a lunch or dinner over any weekend
(that is when there is no one present to prepare meals.)

ST. ALOYSIUS COMMUNITY CENTER
This inner-city ministry serves the homeless offering
food, shelter, and clothing. Serving
over 1000 PBJ sandwiches each day, providing 600 bags of groceries each month
to seniors, and giving clothing to those in need requires the prayer and help
of many! Location: 1209 Washington
Blvd., between State St. and Grand River. Directions: Take Jefferson downtown to
Washington Blvd. (it begins in front of Cobo Hall) turn right and go
approximately five blocks - you will see St. Aloysius Church on the right hand
side and the Community Center on the left.
Call Kathy to schedule a time to help: prepare sandwiches, bag donuts,
put together hygiene kits, sort clothing, or fill whatever need is most urgent

Description:
Upon arrival at Gleaners, sign in.
The day begins with either a tour of the food bank or a video describing
their mission and operation. The group
will work for 1½ hours, have a short break and snack, have their picture taken,
work for 1 more hour and depart. Please identify yourself as a St. Paul on the
Lake parishioner when you call for an assignment. (Thursday –Saturday)

ST. LEO SOUP KITCHEN
Serving the poor at St. Leo’s, or at any shelter, is
an extraordinary privilege; they are God’s precious ones. Such activities
give our students face-to-face contact with some of the most destitute
people in our diocese. These men and
women are facing very difficult times; they are to be treated with the
utmost respect and compassion.

Description: Our youth will be asked to help with a
variety of things including folding clothes, prepping food, making sandwiches,
serving food, wiping tables, etc.
Previous groups found this to be a very moving experience. Lunch will be provided for the helpers if
food is left after everyone else has been served. Participants are invited to bring a
contribution of canned goods and/or used clothing, toys, household goods from
their attics. Please contact

ST. PETER AND PAUL CHURCH: THE WARMING CENTER: For Street People and
those who live in shelters in DETROIT.
Location: 601 East Jefferson Avenue across from the
Renaissance Center.
Description: Our youth will be given tasks to do ‘off
site’ as only adults are allowed in the Center.
However, their needs are great and varied.

A ‘Reflection Service’ will be given at SS.
Peter and Paul Church for groups of 6-12 students who have contributed to
the center. Collection of any of the
following items would make an ideal service project and would be greatly
appreciated: coffee, powdered cream in canisters, sugar, hot chocolate
packages, tea, toilet paper, 8 oz. coffee cups, new socks for men. Please
